Ask the Experts: Top Ten Trends in 2016's Fashion Jewelry

Okay, don’t panic. Summer is coming up with a quickness and in 2016, if you’re anything like me, you’re at a complete loss of what is actually in style. So, instead of scrambling to try to find out what’s hot and what’s not, we decided to Ask the Experts. Laura is one of the Diamond Cellar’s Fashion Buyer and our go to guru for everything we need to know jewelry-wise for this summer.

What’s Trending

  1. Statement Earrings
  2. Chokers/Collars/Short Necklaces
  3. Asymmetry - especially in earrings
  4. Not your grandmother's pearls
  5. Pops of color
  6. Make it personal - create something that speaks of you for everyday fun
  7. Tassels
  8. Long pendants
  9. Vintage Jewelry
  10. Ring stacks

We love the idea of anything stackable! Plus, this summer is bringing back some of our favorite trends! Anyone else as pumped for chokers as we are? To help us even further, Laura went on and explained a list of Do’s and Don’ts for this summer’s fashion.

Do’s and Don’ts

Don't be afraid to mix metals and textures, this adds depth and character to your accessories.

Do pick a focal point and build around that so you don't overwhelm with statement earrings and a statement necklace for example. Pick one and then let the other compliment, not fight for the spotlight.

Do edit. Coco Chanel said “Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and remove one accessory” -sometimes we don't need the kitchen sink.

Do try wearing a cocktail ring on your pointer finger, it spices things up and is a statement in cool.

Do practice asymmetry/rule of odds - if you're layering, aesthetically odd numbers work best and are most pleasing as a set - so for bracelet stacks, ring stacks, layering necklaces, shoot for an odd number if possible since it's scientifically proven to be more pleasing to the eye.

Don't shy away from bold or dainty. Depending on your outfit, short layers of petite necklaces can perfectly finish, and sometimes one bold piece can send you from looking nice to wow. Create your look on how you're feeling in your outfit and have fun playing with both sides of the coin.

Perfect advice, Laura. Feeling better? Now you can enter this season with confidence and ease. Don’t know where to start? Check out this collection here:
